Revolutionary War Era Belt Axe, haft is 18" long, in a round shape, .75" diameter. Axe head is a forged iron composition. Head is ca 5.25" length, cutting surface is 3.25" in width. With rectangular U.S. surcharge mark on face of the axe head. US touch mark on haft.
Condition reportLetters of the surcharge are of a period between 1770 and 1820. The axe shows distinctive age. The haft shows well-used age cracking. Haft could be an old and period replacement, but overall appears to be genuine. A scarce axe.
