Mexican War Era Felt Tar Bucket Hat, silver planchet with eagle bearing patriotic shield with arrows in its left talon and olive twigs in its right talon. Leather band encompasses the crown, with two piewheel vents immediately below flanking each side of hat. Double interlocking chains encompass front half of hat, with a leather band encompassing rear half of hat. Leather visor, flanked by two brass buttons with patriotic eagle with olive twig in left talon and arrows in right talon, encompassed by 24 stars. Complete with leather chinstrap and black wool plume. Inside of hat with black glazed cotton sweat band and black cotton liner. Overall height 12".

Felt region with small fragments missing in planchet region. Leather crown band had fragments missing along the top edge. Leather band at the base of helmet is showing wear along the bottom edge.
