Theodore Oscar Fraenkel (American, 1857-1924, active New Orleans 1899-1901) , "New Basin Canal, New Orleans", watercolor, signed lower left, sight 13 in. x 10 1/2 in. Note: At the turn of the century, Theodore Oscar Fraenkel moved from Chicago to New Orleans and opened the architectural firm of Burton & Fraenkel. A talented watercolorist, Fraenkel exhibited with the Artists’ Association of New Orleans and won a gold medal at the Paris International Exposition of 1900. As did many artists who visited the city, Fraenkel found the New Basin Canal intriguing. In this watercolor, Fraenkel captures a tranquil moment of the schooners docked for the day at twilight.
