The Loring Andrews Co. Sterling RepoussĂ© Tea & Coffee Service, PlusÂ
Cincinnati, early 20th century. A 6-piece sterling silver tea and coffee service with tray by The Loring Andrews Co. The service includes a tea pot, coffee pot, hot water kettle on stand, creamer, lidded sugar and waste. Each with all-over repoussé decoration consisting of grape bunches, strawberries, pineapples, pears, oranges, and apples amidst a network of scrolling leaves and flowers, the undersides monogrammed EG and marked STERLING / THE LORING ANDREWS CO. / CINCINNATI U.S.A. / 1901, PLUS a sterling silver coffee pot by The Loring Andrews Co. with similar fruit, flower, and foliate repoussé decoration, the underside engraved Susan Morris White / 1908 and marked STERLING / THE LORING ANDREWS CO. / CINCINNATI U.S.A., PLUS two sterling silver overcup tea strainers by S. Kirk & Son in the Repousse pattern (also known as the Baltimore Rose pattern), both marked S. Kirk & Son Inc. STERLING 3, PLUS a sterling silver overcup tea strainer by A.G. Schultz & Co., marked STERLING with a hand symbol surrounding MADE, PLUS a sterling silver tea ball with repoussé decoration, marked STERLING 3 with a fleur-de-lis, PLUS a sterling silver warming candle with lever-action cover; kettle on stand ht. 12 in., silver wt. 426.57ozt (13268g).
Although it is not certain, all evidence suggests that Loring Andrews was only a retailer of silver, and that most of their wares were made by Kirk and other Baltimore area silversmiths.Â
