TOM CARR
(BRITISH 1912-1977) NEWCASTLE AND DISTRICT BEAGLES" Signed, dated and inscribed "TOM CARR 1956 NEWCASTLE AND DISTRICT BEAGLES" bottom right, watercolor and gouache 15 x 21 3/8 in. (38.1 x 54.3cm) PROVENANCE: The Sporting Gallery Inc., Middleburg, Virginia. From the Estate of Robert Montgomery Scott, "Ardrossan", Radnor, Pennsylvania." Condition report-Not examined (fully) out of frame. Very good overall condition except for some surface abrasion in part of sky.
-Matted, framed
-Opening up the frame to examine the work, we note there is brown tape around each edge of a piece of illustration board. We have NOT cut one of the tape pieces to see the full watercolor out of the frame. Therefore, this work may or may not be executed directly on illustration board.
-In top part of sky at left, the top layer of the work is abraded, revealing the unpainted ground. This narrow area is approx. 4 in. long in total and 1/8 in. wide at widest with some of the abraded area less than 1/8 in wide. Also in sky at top, in center and center right, there appear to be thin partial 'lines' where ground is slightly abraded. In these places the sky has thin whitish 'lines' against the darker colored background sky (with approaching storm). These thin 'lines' may be mechanical damage rather than being intended by the artist.
-Otherwise, generally bright, fresh colors.
