Marvin Gaye. Marvin Gaye’s personal music manuscripts. Four historical blue leather portfolios containing nearly all of the major music arrangements in Marvin Gaye’s repertoire. Each portfolio is stamped “Marvin Gaye” in luminous green ink and each is also stamped trumpet, reeds, horns and guitar. Marvin Gaye carried these portfolios with him throughout his illustrious career. The manuscripts comprise of hand annotated musical arrangements for the following songs. “I heard it through the Grapevine”, What’s going On?”, “Lets get it on”, “Mercy Mercy Me”, “Inner City Blues”, “Save the Children”, “Ain’t no Mountain High Enough”, “Ain’t that peculiar”, “After the Dance”, “Praise in our Lifetime”, “Praise Medley”, “Heavy Love Affair”, “Too Busy Thinking About My Baby”, “I’ll be Doggone”, “Hitch Hike”, “Stubborn Kind of Fellow”, “Trouble Man”, “Distant Lover”, “Come get to This”, “How Sweet it is” and “Wonderful One”. Many of the song titles and side notes are in Marvin’s hand. The printed sheets depict the legendary arrangements for some of the most iconic songs in Motown history. These treasured musical manuscripts were the tools of Marvin Gaye’s trade and prior to his tragic death in 2nd April 1984 they were presented to our vendor as a gesture of gratitude for their support during his resurrection in the early 1980s when he came to London and found new friends and consequently his career was revived after the UK tour and European Tours. These manuscripts represent the legacy of the legend of Marvin Gaye and up until this point in time were not known to exist until the discovery by the Fame Bureau. Not sold with copyright.
