SIX ANCIENT CHINESE RIVER "DONUTS"

No one is quite sure of the purpose of these remarkable stones of distinctly donut-shaped form, but they are believed to be around 10,000 years old, and man-made as either dragging weights for fishing, or as ship anchors. Similar stones have caused controversy, discovered off the coast of Palos Verdes, CA, of the uniquely Chinese style and made from stone commonly found in southern China, yet judged to be as much as 3,000 years old. Either way, they are remarkable, ancient objects, worn to a lovely smoothness and ranging from 4 1/4 to 6 1/8 inches wide.
