This attractive French Art Deco mantle clock set was made of finely veined red marble in the 1920s. The clock is designed in shape of the Parthenon of the Acropolis in Athens. The clock features a week movement by the French manufacturer ‘Manufacture d'Horlogerie de Béthune’ and shows the monogram ‘MB’ as well as the figurative mark of a swallow at the verso. The clock face shows a white numeral ring with Roman numbers and blue tempered steel hands. It is covered by a glass lunette. The clock face is flanked by three brass columns on each side, reminding of the ancient temple motif. The pediment features a relief tympanum, embossed with Greek warrior figures. Two decorative marble urns complete the set. The clock comes with a key winding. An impressive eye-catcher for every mantelpiece!
The set is in a good condition with small traces of age and use. The marble shows small nicks and chips here and there. On the back side of the marble casing, there are a couple of minor touch-ups. There is some colour losses visible at the brass fittings. The clock measures 30.5 cm in height, 29 cm in width and 11 cm in depth. The urns measure 29 cm in height. The clock ran flawlessly during a short-time test; but long term precision and durance cannot be guaranteed. (cbo)
