Description
Gilt Spelter Mantel Clock, 19th c., by A.D. Mougin, time and strike, the drum clock with a handled urn surmount with bird finial and relief grapes and leaves, over a face with enameled chapter marks, flanked by figures of putti, on a stepped oval base, with relief fruit, flowers, and wheat, on scrolled feet, H.- 15 1/4 in., W.- 18 in., D.- 7 in.
Condition
Condition consistent with age and use. Loss of gilt observed throughout, especially on the relief decorations on the base, the bird finial, and the heads of the putti. A crack is noted in the left relief garland on the base. The cup in the putti’s hand on the right side is observed as broken off. The enamel chapter mark “IIII” is noted as being slightly loose. Not tested for working order. A charming example.
