Emiliano di Cavalcanti (1897-1976), "Pescadores," 1948, oil on canvas, signed l.l., framed, H.- 21 1/2 in., W.- 29 7/8 in. Note: Di Cavalcanti was a pre-eminent Brazilian artist and met fellow artists Max Ernst, Louis Aragon, Andre Breton, Fernand Leger, and Pablo Picasso. He and Picasso formed a long standing friendship.
Condition
Condition consistent with age. Not examined out of the frame. The canvas has been relined and the original canvas is lifting slightly from the backing in the lower right corner. The paint surface is slightly uneven throughout with several vertical hairline cracks across the bottom edge. There is no evidence of in-painting when examined under black light. An exquisite example.
