Japanese Carved Mahogany Chair, c. 1940, the edge carved crest rail over a pierced carved cherry blossom and bird back, flanked by leaf and berry carved supports, above a trapezoidal seat, to a gadroon and foliate skirt, on anthropomorphic carved cabriole legs to paw feet, H.- 38 1/2 in., W.- 15 in., D.- 16 1/2 in.
Condition
Condition consistent with age. Small chip is noted on the right support, with a small line of loss to the finish observed at the top of the right leg. Dust debris is seen throughout carving. Seat is observed with moderate scuffing and scratches. A slight fracture is noted on the backside of the crest rail. Chair is observed as slightly unsteady. A unique example.
