Description
2 plates from the Flower Book, pochoir-coloured collotypes, 1905, the edition was 300, by Henri Piazza for Georgiana Burne-Jones and the Fine Art Society, each 240 x 200mm. (9 1/2 x 8 in) (2) Over the last six years of his life, Burne-Jones (1833-1898) worked on a series of 38 exquisite watercolours inspired by flowers. This was a private project for his wife, Georgiana, while they relaxed at their summer home. In conjunction with the Fine Art Society, she had the series reproduced a few years after his death. For this she turned to the master printer, Henri Piazza (1861-1929), who led the way in deluxe limited edition illustrated book production, of which the Flower Book is considered to be one of his masterpieces. Provenance: acquired from Peter Nahum at the Leicester Galleries in the early 1990s.
