Chaumet Paris
The history of Chaumet is closely interwoven with the history of France. The house of Chaumet had its beginning in 1780 when Marie-Étienne Nitot became the official jeweler of Napoleon. Nitot and his successors designed ostentatious jewellery for the royal court and the wealthy bourgeoisie. In 1882 Joseph Chaumet took over the company. He manufactured ornate tiaras, which were to become the area of expertise of Chaumet, in the Renaissance style. In 1907 the workshops and shop move to 12 Place Vendôme where they can still be found today. During the postwar period Chaumet became a pioneer in the field of jewellery production. The products epitomised the exclusive taste of Parisian women and took inspiration from the fashion trends of the time. Since the 1970s the jewellery design of the house of Chaumet is characterized by a combination of various materials inside creative shapes and forms.
