Description
Pueblo utility blanket, banded pattern, woven of native sheep wool dyed with aniline (red, two shades), and un-dyed (cream & brown). Twill weaving intermittent in some of the stripes. Brown warp evident in a 6 & 3/4 inch wide vertical strip (the use of brown warp is an early trait). The blanket is well used, certainly not a tourist blanket. Circa 1890-1900. Dimensions: 50 in. wide x 62 in. long. The Publos Native Americans taught the Navajo tribe to weave blankets.
Condition
Selvedge breaks, edge damage, broken warps, small holes, surface bleed, staining.
