VERY FINE JAPANESE CARVED SHIBIYAMA IVORY DEITY AND ELEPHANT, MEIJI PERIOD (1868-1912)
Carved in the form of a large elephant wearing ceremonial attire, its back supporting a lotus blossom with a seated Deity, the trappings of the elephant inlaid overall in coral, mother of pearl and colored ivory; signed on the underside.
Height 10 1/2 in. (26.7 cm.), Width 8 3/4 in. (22.2 cm.)
