A William de Morgan bowl, decorated by Fred Passenger, the centre with a dragon, a snake and a wolf, the borders with a snake and Persian flowering foliage, on a low foot, 'FP' to the base, 35.5cm diameter Literature: The central design is found in 'The Designs of William de Morgan', Richard Dennis, 2007; V&A accession no. 1122, 'Two dishes or centres with grotesques', p.28; the border design, 1322, 'Border section with Persian flowering foliage', p.65. Provenance: Sir Rowland Whitehead, 5th Bt. (1930-2007) a trustee of Kelmscott House Trust and member of the William Morris Society for over fifty years.
