Description

In production for just 6 months ~ the CD Deluxe eight Roadster evolved from the legendary Cord L29 and is considered to be one of the most beautiful Chrysler models ever produced. Fitted with a straight 8 engine of 282 cubic inch capacity and a manual 4 speed gearbox, the Roadster is a wonderfully proportioned and highly elegant motor car with sweeping wings and a long bonnet. It was one of the most stunning American cars of the era.

This particular car is owned by legendary power boat racer turned designer, Don Shead. The man behind all the Sunseeker hull designs, Don is a highly respected racer on both land and sea having won countless International power boat races and designed many major race winning boats. He is also an accomplished racing driver and BRDC member. Acquiring this car in 2009 his vision was originally to convert it to a racing specification, as they did for Le Mans in period, in order to race it at Classic Le Mans. However, having seen it, this plan was soon shelved as the car was found to be in such extraordinary condition and ideal for restoring to it's former glory.

Purchased directly from the 'Harrah' collection in 2009 (which was part of a French museum display), the car had been originally imported from the States by them in 1987 as a rare surviving example of only 511 built.

Added to Don's significant personal collection he sent the engine to noted specialists, Formhalls Vintage and Racing, in 2011 for a 'white metal bearing' rebuild with new pistons. Bills on file evidence a spend of over £7k on the engine and a further £1500 with respected experts Foxcraft Engineering Ltd. Further work was also carried out on the brakes with new seals and cylinders fitted where necessary.

The paintwork on the car is starting to microblister slightly now, however, the interior is in excellent order and well patinated. The canvas top is in good working order and condition as are the nicely mellowed tan seats, including the rear dickie seat. It drives well and is now ready for the next owner to take care of the paintwork and enjoy a superb, stylish and extremely rare car that will surely prove a canny investment.
