Item Details
Description

The Mercedes 280SL ‘Pagoda' was introduced in December 1967 and continued in production through until February 1971.The W113 was then replaced by its successor, the entirely new and substantially heavier R107 350SL. Over the years, the W113 evolved from a ‘sports car' into a comfortable ‘grand tourer', and was usually equipped with the 4-speed automatic transmission and air conditioning. The obvious change from its predecessor was the upgrade to the 2778cc M130 engine, which purists will tell you finally gave the Pagoda adequate power. Now suitably refined, the car proved popular in the US market, however, we've seen a significant increase in demand here in the UK - not least due to the 190SL rising beyond the budgets of many.

"HAD 658J" is an original UK right hand drive 280SL ‘Pagoda' automatic first registered on the 16th October 1970. Presented today in truly resplendent condition due to the 28 month restoration that was completed in May of this year by the renowned classic car restoration specialists "Jules Bodycraft" of Coven, Wolverhampton. A full CD photographic record accompanies the car detailing the arrival of the car in January 2011 and following the complete strip down to bare shell, extensive welding and gradual nut and bolt rebuild up until March 2013.

Finished to an exacting standard in its original colours of white with blue interior and matching blue hard and soft tops, this striking 280SL drives superbly. The engine and gearbox are in mechanically excellent condition and were both serviced fully during the restoration. The steering is accurate and the brakes pull up true and straight.

The large history file contains details of early servicing work, complete with original workshop job cards, a number of past MoT's along with a current one until May 2015 ~ all of which would lead us to believe that the 73,504 miles displayed on the odometer are genuine.

This car can be purchased with confidence and in the knowledge that following its very recent restoration nothing further is needed by the new owner before enjoying some truly classic motoring.
