Item Details
Description
DESCRIPTION: This is a pair of tall colonial pricket wrought iron candlesticks from Southeast Pennsylvania, circa 1700s. Pennsylvania led the colonies and the nation in iron production in during the early years of America. The iron industry began in Pennsylvania in 1716 in Berks County, where ironmasters erected a bloomer forge that produced crude iron. By the time of the American Revolution, ironmasters had erected more than seventy iron furnaces and forges; all fueled by charcoal, in the Schuylkill, Delaware and Susquehanna River valleys. The colonial wrought iron candlesticks have a candy cane twist that decorates the long center staff. There are four arched wrought iron legs that rest upon a centered cross with penny feet. There are huge candle drip pans or bobeches that the candles rest upon and would allow for wax overflow. The long sharp prickets secure the candles. Without a doubt, a pair of wrought iron candlesticks like these would have come from an affluent family and would have been found in the finest colonial homes. MEASUREMENTS: Candlesticks are 19 inches high and 8 inches wide. Bobeches are 8 inches wide.SHIPPING: Packaging, handling, and shipping for all locations in the 48 Continental United States is $30.
