Charming painting executed in dynamic ductus depicting a vivid traditional dance scene in broad, ornamented gold frame
This oil painting by Hungarian painter Andor Heller was created in 1941. Depicted is a vivid genre scene, executed in dynamic ductus. Two musicians play in front of a tavern where some couples in a high-spirited atmosphere are dancing the so-called ‘Czárdás’, which is a traditional Hungarian folk dance. The couple in the image foreground seem to enjoy their dance particularly. The traditional women's clothing appear in delicate bright colors, as well as the lovely face of the dancing woman. Andor Heller is presenting his characters as if they were on stage and is thereby illustrating the traditions of the Hungarian people in quite a charming way.
The painting is signed and dated lower right ‘Andor Heller. 1941’ and is in good condition. The canvas is relined. Within the subject, as well as at the edges, there are occasional small retouched spots, which are only visible under UV-light. The golden frame shows slight signs of wear. The stretcher measures 57 x 79 cm. The framed dimensions are 70 x 92 cm.

Andor Heller was born 1904 in Hungary. He used to work as a genre and figurative painter, who created mainly images with the representation of women and children in their home environment and further scenes from mythology, which he executed in delicate bright colors and in his dynamic characteristic style.
