This fine hunting painting shows a young buck with a doe and a barren doe in a winter landscape. It was painted by the artist Wilhelm Lorenz (1901-1981), presumably in the 1960s. The subject was depicted with many details, whereas the painting’s different grounds, as well as the perspectives and colours show the painter’s great artistic skill. Wilhelm Lorenz is well-known among hunters, as he illustrated the covers of the German magazine ‘Westfälischer Jägerbote’ for years.
The painting is signed ‘Willy Lorenz’ at the lower right. The work is in good overall condition, showing slight traces of age and use. The canvas is dented at one point at the left edge. The stretcher measures 60 cm in height and 80 cm in width. The frame is also well preserved and measures 71 x 91 cm. (cbo)
