Description
DESCRIPTION: This is a large American yellow ware stoneware milk crock from New England Circa 1800’s. Colonists settling in the United States brought European pottery techniques with them. Colonial ceramic production was limited to red ware and stoneware because of limited material, with occasional attempts to produce cream ware and porcelain. In the United States, production centered around New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New England and Ohio. The earliest documented American yellow ware was in 1797, with large-scale production starting in 1828 in New Jersey. The yellow ware stoneware milk crock has a vivid detailed green slip glaze. There is a huge wide extended rim that has a "bee hive honeycomb" embossed design. The yellow ware milk crock is very heavy in weight.
