Description
Andy Warhol (American, 1928 - 1987). "Howdy Doody [cmoa edition]". Original color lithograph. 1986. Signed in black marker lower left; signed in the plate, lower right; CMOA stamp, verso. Numbered in pencil from the edition of 5,000. Light cream wove paper. The full sheet. Fine impression. Very good to fine condition. Literature/catalogue raisonne: cf. Feldman/Schellmann II.263. The Carnegie Museum of Art (CMOA) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (Warhol's birthplace), published a series of original "stone," not offset, lithographic limited editions of Warhol's works in 1986. Generally each edition is stamped with the museum's logo on the verso, is numbered in pencil on the recto, and has Warhol's signature in the plate, although these notations vary from edition to edition. In the CMOA series the images and colors are similar, but generally not identical, to the editioned silkscreens. Warhol is known to have signed a number of these prints.
