Description
Piet Mondrian [by or attrib] (Dutch, 1872 - 1944). "Study for a Composition". Original crayon drawing. c1928. Bears signature lower right. Cream wove watermarked paper. Overall good condition; scattered solf handling blemishes and creases, not into image; notebook holes right side of sheet; unrelated pen drawing verso which does not telegraph through to verso. Provenance: Private collection, Paris, France. The artist was born Pieter Cornelis "Piet" Mondriaan. Between his 1905 painting, The River Amstel, and his 1907 Amaryllis, Mondrian changed the spelling of his signature from Mondriaan to Mondrian.
