Natalia Gontcharova (Russian, 1881 - 1962). "Bal Olympique…11 Juillet 1924". Original lithograph . 1924. Signed in the stone under the Gontcharova image. Full margins. Fine impression. Black ink on pink paper, with a lineblock of a drawing by Barthe, signed by Barthe in the block, on verso. Gontcharova, who spent her extravagant life with Larionov, was the very rich, eccentric granddaughter of Alexander Pushkin. A Diaghilev devotee, she dedicated most of her considerable artistic talents to stage and costume design. She worked for the most prestigious theaters, operas and ballet companies, from the revolutionary Coq d'Or of Rimsky Korsakof to her final creations for the Marquis de Cuevas Ballet in 1948.
