Franz Josef Kline [after] (American, 1910-1962). "Untitled". Mixed media on paper. 1959. Bears spurious signature lower right. White wove paper. Fine condition. Kline started using color in his compositions in the mid 1950s. He was born in Pennsylvania and studied at Boston University. Kline was one of the central figures in the New York Abstract Impressionist movement of the 1950s, along with William de Kooning, Jackson Pollock, and Mark Rothko. After considerable success in New York galleries through the 1950s, Kline died young, at the age of 52, from heart disease in New York.
