Description
Jose Maria Velasco (Mexican, 1840-1912). "Descripcion, Metamorfosis y Costumbres de una Especie Nueva del Genero Siredon [III]". Original lithograph. 1879. Signed "J.M. Velasco" in the plate, lower right. Very small edition. White wove paper. Full margins. Fine impression. Fine condition. Slight skinning upper margin at edge of sheet; no foxing, creasing, tears, etc. This is an exceedingly rare print; we could not find a record at auction. Our example is Plate III from "La Naturaleza," Volume IV, published in Mexico in 1879. As well as being one of Mexico's greatest artists, Velasco was an accomplished naturalist. At the time he created this print he was a member of the prestigious Sociedad Mexicana de Historia Natural, which published this volume. Overall size: 8 x 11 3/4 in. (203 x 298 mm). Image size: 6 x 8 5/8 in. (152 x 219 mm). [23611] |500| {K90}
