A special bookplate of collector Paul Lemperly, designed with a space for the author's signature, on the front pastedown endpaper, here signed by Owen Wister, signature dated June 30, 1902. Bookplate of Henry Walker Bagley and Nancy Reynolds Bagley on front free endpaper. Very rare in the original dust jacket. A high spot of American literature. Dobie p. 124; Reese Six Score, 116.

Condition

Light wear to slipcase; old restoration to jacket consisting of a full backing in an old paper of a similar color to that used for the jacket, chips and wear to edges and folds of both the original jacket and the old paper backing, small booksellers clipping tipped to front jacket flap, some soiling; volume with minor wear to cloth, still brightly colored, both hinges cracked; very good.
