Description
This scene by Josefina Aguilar depicts baby Jesus surrounded by the 3 Kings who followed the star of Bethleham as well as Mary and Joseph and an angel. These are vintage pieces that were collected in the 70's and 80's and were sculpted some time prior to this period. Josephina Aguilar made the angel in this scene a bit larger than the rest of the figures, standing at 10" high, while the rest gathered around the infant Jesus measure 9"x3.5"x3.5". Josefina Aguilar is a Mexican folk artist from Ocotl·n de Morelos, Oaxaca. She is best known for her small clay figurines, called muÒecas, an art form she learned from her mother. Aguilar uses red clay to create depictions of everyday village activities, religious and folkloric scenes, famous figures and special Day of the Dead statues. Collectors of her work include Nelson Rockefeller, who discovered her work on a trip to Oaxaca in 1975 as well as repeat visitors to Oaxaca, who come to see her latest work.
