Paper Size: approximately 16" x 20" Edition Size: 500 This scene is taken from an actual “freeze-frame” from the Looney Tunes cartoon short entitled, Knighty Knight Bugs, released in 1958 under the direction of Friz Freleng. In the film, which won an Academy Award, Bugs Bunny is King Arthur’s hapless court jester, who is challenged to recover the prized singing sword from its kidnapper, The Black Knight, played by Yosemite Sam. Sent out to retrieve it, Bugs sneaks into the villain’s castle, while Black Knight Sam and his treacherous fire-breathing, cold-ridden, sneezing dragon are sleeping. After a series of animated exchanges, Sam finally finds himself holed up in the dungeon with his dragon in a room full of explosives and says- “don’t sneeze, ya stupid dragon, or you’ll blow us to the moon!”-- which he does!! According to Director Friz Freleng, “Yosemite Sam was a perfect adversary for Bugs Bunny,” casting him as a pirate, cowboy, an Arab, a knight, a Roman Legionnaire, a confederate soldier, etc. “I put him in a different costume in almost every picture,” remarked Freleng. And, one can just hear Sam proclaiming himself, “the roughest, toughest, rootin-tootin’est riffiest raff to ever riff a raff,” yelling at the top of his lungs.
