TIGER MAPLE BUTLER'S CHEST - Late 18th to early 19th c. New England Solid Maple Butler's Chest with overhanging single plank top, drop-front faux upper drawer concealing desk with cabinet, letter drawers and valanced compartments, three graduated drawers below, all with beaded edge, cast brass oval drop bails, boldly shaped skirt and bracketed, slightly swept legs. 40 1/4" x 45" x 19 3/4'. Early inletted repairs to top and side of legs, shrinkage cracks to sides, loss to front edge of compartments. Slip of paper inside indicates this was property of John Langdon Dodge, born in New Marlborough, Mass in 1814, died in Great Barrington, Mass in 1904. He was President of the National Mahaiwe Bank, the Everett Woolen Mills and the Great Barrington Gas and Water Companies.
