LOT OF NATIVE AMERICAN DOCUMENTS & BOOK - Letters addressed to Mr. Joseph Makes Him Long of Bridger, South Dakota, (Indian Scout) concerning the Sioux Indian Tribe, including March 1915 memo and two page questionnaire from Cheyenne River Agency Commissioner F.C. Campbell; PLUS Oct 1924 from CC Calhoun thanking Long for getting togther records of Wounded Knee; PLUS a May 1932 draft of the Black Hills Sioux Enrollment Bill, with notations; PLUS a Sept 1934 letter from US Representative Theo. B. Werner regarding Long's Indian War service pension; PLUS July 1939 Translation (into Dakota) of House Joint Resolution No 352, with notations also in Dakota; PLUS a July 1945 letter from US Attorney George Philip concerning the possible murder of 8 year-olde Indian boy Dietrick Horn by other boys; PLUS Draft of June 1950 letter from Long to Mr. Walter F. Dickens, written in Dakota; PLUS May 1955 letter from US Rep E.Y. Berry concerning $1,200 Oahe Dam settlement; PLUS Hymn Book "Dakota Odowan" in the native language, published by the American Tract Society in 1925. From the archives of the Society of Alberta: "John Joseph Makes Him Long (sometimes Makes It Long), 1870-1960, a Sioux from South Dakota, USA, was a scout during the Indian wars of 1890-1891 and was a veteran of Wounded Knee. From 1891 to 1915 he served in the USA Indian Police on the Cheyenne River Reservation, rising to the rank of first lieutenant. He went on government pension in 1928. He lived in Bridger, South Dakota, and was an active member of the Upper Cheyenne Congregational Church, for which he was a layman for 10 years and a deacon for 26. His wife's name was Mary."
