SHIP DIORAMA & ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH - Six Mast Schooner ' W.L. Douglas': Painted Wood Diorama in original folk art framed shadowbox, all painted in red, white and blue, 27 1/2" x 38" x 4 3/4"; PLUS N.L. Stebbins Photograph, taken Dec 14, 1903, neg no 14970, mounted, in the original frame, OS: 12 3/4" x 15 3/4", both in good condition. The steel-hulled ocean schooner 'William L. Douglas' was built in 1903 for the shoe titan of that name at the Fore River Shipyard, Quincy, Mass. She was the first six-masted steel-hulled schooner, launched Aug 25, 1903. Re-named the 'Delaware Sun' in 1912 when purchased by the Sun Oil Co, she could cross the Atlantic under sail in 45 days, she sank off Sabine, Texas in 1918.
