Description
An eerie Post-Classic Maya deity mask from the Yucatan area of Mexico, ca. 1000 – 1200 AD.  This rare example is 4-1/2 in high, 3-1/2 in wide and depicts the Chac, the Rain God. The strong upper lip represents a mass of clouds, the outward turned fangs portray lightning bolts and the large teeth represent sheets of rain. The superbly sculpted features create a strong presence. Mounted on marble base. Ex Foxworth estate.
