Description

A particularly good ancient European, Medieval or Gothic iron bound chest. In completely original and exceptional untouched condition, Possibly Andalusian from southern, Moorish Spain. It dates somewhere around the 15th century, perhaps earlier. Appearing to be of walnut, this gently domed chest is extensively bound with cut, hammered and highly decorative iron strapwork, the facing under its top and down the frontal sides has fine broad panels of decoratively cut out bronze panels, there are original fine iron worked side handles. With original hardware, a rare to unique museum example in completely original condition with untouched surface. Repair to front. 51" wide x 30" deep x 32" high.
