Description
THREE FIGURINES OF A LION, A GARUDA AND A MUSICIAN. Wood. India, Nepal, 18th to 19th century
The lion, a connectable decorative element from a larger piece, and interestingly a very lively piece, could even be older. It emerges from a piece that is decorated with floral volutes, and has its front paws elevated, ready to jump. Very strong patina, remains of a read coating. The gilded semi-god, mythical eagle Garuda, makes an emblematic impression, legs spread and hands lifted - together with the wings, they create the arches. The bird face is full of expression. The largest piece is the heavenly musician, a Gandharva, depicted in flight, playing a woodinstrument and wearing a crown weith lotus decorations. Patina. From an old German collection
