This collection of three Indian paintings from the 20th century includes a pichhavai temple hanging depicting the Worship of Shrinathji during the Autumn Full Moon Festival of Sarat Purnama, a Mughal style painting showing a ruler with his attendants within elaborate surroundings as well as a wall hanging with Krishna playing the flute amidst a crowd of entranced gopis who eagerly await their turn with him. This is presumably a version of the rasa lila (the Celestial Dance) with the deity standing on lotus blossoms near the banks of the Jumna River. The pavilions of the Jumna Ghat are rendered in the foreground and celestial beings in the sky shower the participants with blossoms. Although late in period the works are well painted in a lively and imaginative manner with beautiful colors and partially highlighted with metallic pigments.



The three hangings are in good condition with signs of age and wear. The fabrics show creases, some stains and tiny holes. The colors are overall well preserved with some losses. The dimensions are 170 x 126 cm, 124.5 x 95.5 cm and 122 x 198 cm respectively. (tfa)
