Decoration: A fine border of stipple engraving under the lip then a frieze of flowers banded and separated by stipple engraving, under which is a swag of floral and leaf decoration, the base banded in stippling of fan paddles with curved tops. Each side bears a wreath inside which the initials R.S. and opposite a coat of arms featuring a winged griffin in a coronet possibly an abbreviated version of the Stuart.

Condition: Wear to touch marks, where the attachment of the handle meets the body some solder is missing though it is stable.
History: By 1779 he entered his mark with John de Gruchy II or III, went into partnership with Alexander Field of London, the two men entering a joint mark at Goldsmiths' Hall. By 1780 this partnership had dissolved.
