Kindjal Daggers
Material: Silver, walnut, steel
Construction: Carved wood, forged steel
Marks: None
Features: These daggers have wood handles, silver decoration, and steel blades. The blades have a slight curve to them and two edges. The decoration in the hilts vary between the two. The shorter blade has a more intricate series of patterns, almost like vines and suns curling amongst the bar designs.
Period: 1900s
Provenance: New Hampshire Estate
Blade Size: 8.5" 9.0"
Overall Size: 15.25" 15.75"
Weight: 1lbs 11.8oz
Condition: Some patina has built up on the silver and steel of the daggers, but there are no missing pieces, chips, or other damage done to the blade, handle, or sheaths.
History: The kindjal, or 'child scarf,' has a straight, double-edged blade with a hollow path that runs from the handle up to the point at which the blade to place tapered (top) down. Other versions have a dual hollow path that only a few centimeters begins after the blade base and extends up to the tip. In some runs the hollow path is not in the middle, but displaced therefrom. The blade shape is also different. Most blades are straight, but there are also many whose blade is slightly curved. The child scarf has no parry . The handles are usually made ??of wood or horn. The sheaths are made ??of wood that is covered with leather or metal. The front is finely worked, as opposed to the back, which is often kept quite simple and practically blank. The length of the child scarf blade varies between about 8 cm and 45 cm.
