Artist Biography: Montgomery Melbourne was wholly responsible for some of the most famous advertising art icons of the 20th century. Just to mention a few: Chilly Whilly for Kool cigarettes; The Morton Salt Ad, and tag line, " When it Rains it Pours"; give you car a kick in the gas, with Gulf No-Knocks; The Wrigley's Spearmint Boy. He invented the first Pop-up advertisement in Jack and Jill Magazine and Uniroyal Tiger Paws Tire Ad. He was also an accomplished anatomical artist, inventor, expatriate of Tenafly, New Jersey and Chicago, Illinois, where he owned and operated an art school. He lived in a Kentucky Mansion, while working for Brown an Williamson, and moved to Ontario California in the early 60's, where he lived and worked until his death in 1970. Back in the 30's, he, his wife, and his daughter lived in Buenos Aires Argentina, where he was the builder of the renovation to the Presidential Manson. Creator of the NorthEast Airlines Yellow Bird, "The Only Way to Fly". His father was a Sheriff in Dodge City who fought in the Confederate Army and was familiar with the likes of Bat Masterson, Wyatt Earp. and Doc Holiday. Montgomery worked for the war department in World War II.
