Description This antique cast iron bank remains fully functional, allowing a coin to be placed in Teddy's cocked rifle. When the trigger between Teddy's feet is depressed, the coin flies into the hole in the tree before him, causing a bear to pop out of the top, surprising the former president. It is made entirely of cast iron, original paint surfaces. The heavy base is masterfully crafted to show a forest floor, as well as imply where the roots of the tree are close to the surface. Teddy Roosevelt is wearing his signature glasses, and the bear is showing his teeth. Teddy and the Bear integrated into the casting.
Condition While the bank is fully functional and in one piece, the original paint has toned, some minor old chips and losses to paint.
History These banks were created in 1907, after the popularization of the "teddy bear" following the adventures of the president Theodore Roosevelt. Being a well-known nature enthusiast, adventurer, and hunter, many companies capitalized on the image to sell toys and trinkets. Among those items created were the Teddy And The Bear novelty banks made of cast iron. Though heavy, these collectible banks have been hot items for decades.
