This lot comprises four bottles of Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia from Fattoria di Fèlsina in Tuscany, one bottle each from the 1995, 1997, 1998 and 2001 vintages.

The Tuscan winegrowing region of Chianti, home to Chianti red wine, is a heterogenic wine-growing area with truly diverse geological and geographical landscapes and wine styles. Chianti therefore reveals many different faces and wine qualities. Chiantis are cuvées made using various grape varieties, mainly Sangiovese. The Chianti region is divided into seven DOCG sub-regions, with some of the finest, most long-lasting growths come from Chianti Classico and Rufina:

Chianti Classico DOCG is produced in the historic part of Tuscany, between Florenz and Siena. It must be matured in oak barrels for at least a year, Chianti Classico Reserva for two. The grape variety proportions in cuvee are also set by wine authorities: Sangiovese makes up at least eighty percent of the wine. White wine grapes, formerly commonplace, are no longer allowed.

1995 was a fine vintage in Tuscany and Piedmont, leading to the creation of some great wines, the best of which are now at their peak, albeit in small numbers. In 1997 the summer in Tuscany was extremely hot, the quality is rather inconsistent but some wines are quite extraordinary. 1998 was a variable vintage due to a hot summer and much rain during the harvest. 2001 was a very good vintage in Tuscany, especially for Chianti and Bordeaux-style wines. The wines from this vintage are very powerful, full-bodied and long-lived.

The fill levels are excellent (into neck). Some labels are very slightly damaged. The capsules are in perfect condition.
