Description
A late Victorian gold, emerald and split pearl locket, circa 1880. The interlocking split pearl and cushion-shape emerald horseshoe panels, to the geometric engraved panel and plain reverse. Length 5.3cms. Weight 21.6gms.
Condition
The lot is in good to fair overall condition with light scratches in keeping with general wear. One emerald is a probable replacement with glue-like substance surrounding it, another emerald is split down the middle with associated chips. Split pearls are mostly well matched with slight wear to the outer nacre layers and a light peachy white hue. The emeralds are moderately well matched with a light medium through deep slightly bluish green hue. One emerald with significant crack and chips, remaining emeralds with minor abrasion. Small scratches to the gilt finish to the reverse. Length of locket includes surmount loop, length of oval-shape panel 3.8cms.
