Description
A late 19th century gold enamel and gem-set brooch. Of openwork design, the ruby and diamond fleur-de-lys motif, to the lapis lazuli trefoil panel, within a scrolling black enamel and white enamel bead surround, may be worn as a pendant. Length 4.1cms. Weight 14.6gms.
Condition
The lot is in good to fair overall condition with light scratches in keeping with general wear. Replacement pin hinge, soft solder visible. Hinged surmount loop, clasp hinged. Stamp to clasp, poorly struck and rubbed. Reverse of trefoil with openwork foliate grille locket compartment. The diamonds appear bright and well matched, estimated total diamond weight 0.06ct. Lapis lazuli untested for natural colour origin. Lapis lazuli is a mottled, dark blue hue with flecks of pyrite. The ruby is a medium pinky red hue. Moderate chips to white enamel beads.
