Description
French. 19th century. Louis XVI style giltwood carved and upholstered settee or bench. Settee with top rail and seat rail carved with bead and reed molding over patera. Rectangular padded back issuing scrolling carved arms with upholstered elbow rests on acanthus carved supports above a bowed padded seat. Seat, back, and elbow rests on arms custom upholstered in gold silk patterned fabric. Elegant settee raised on turned, tapered and fluted legs headed with patera blocks, in the style of George Jacob (French, 1739-1814). Height 41", length 61", seat depth 23.5". Seat to floor 17".
Condition
Settee is sturdy. No issues noted with joinery. Fabric appears to be in good condition with no rips, tears or stains. There is slight wear to the gilt finish commensurate with age.
