Description
Continental School, 19th century. Heavy plaster figural bust in the form of a Roman emperor in draped toga, likely Caesar Augustus, founder of the Roman empire and first emperor. Sculpture with cast iron finish with remnants of red painted finish on backside and shoulder of bust and raised on an integal socle base with red painted . Portrait bust further raised on a figural plaster display pedestal with ram's head corners, figural relief and winged caraytids with gilt bronze and pewter finish. Height of bust . Height of pedestal 37.5" x 17" square. Height of bust alone 18", width at widest point 18.5".
