This album is a biography of Alfred Tennyson, but it is also a portrait of an age. He knew the leading figures of the Victorian period, most of whom were his guests and figured in his photograph album. His houses, at Aldworth and Farringford, were never empty of illustrious guests, and his friendships spanned the Atlantic. Since these friends are so much a feature of his life, they figure large in this book.
