Description
5th-3rd century BC. A matched pair of drop earrings, each a round-section wire hoop with scrolled ends supporting a tubular ribbed body and domed finial; to the hoop a coiled wire with three green glass beads, to each side a wire running through ribbed collars with interstitial glass beads. Cf. drop earrings in Higgins, R.A. Greek and Roman Jewellery, London, 1961, plate 54. 11 grams, total, 44-48mm (1 3/4"). From an important Austrian collection; acquired in the early 1980s.
