Description
6th century BC. A cast fibula comprising: a crescentic round-section bow with spiked and beaded wire collars; palmette plaque with radiating lines to one face, punched pellet to the other, large granules to the edges, pierced to accept the pin; a flat-section plaque with two lateral bosses and returned catchplate with bands of pellet detail. Cf. Hattatt, R. Brooches of Antiquity, Oxford, 1987, item 1371. 53 grams, 64mm (2 1/2"). Property of a German gentleman; formerly in an old Bavarian collection.
