Description
9th-11th century AD. A penannular brooch with scrolled terminals, ornamented with punched pellet-in-triangle decoration; the band a flat casting with a central raised ridge and scalloped profile; the pin a round-section rod expanding to lateral flanges with similar punched decoration. Cf. the penannular brooch from the Rauto hoard, Karelia, Finland, in HÃ¥rdh, B. Silver in the Viking Age: A Regional-Economic Study, Stockholm, 1996, fig. 25, p.115. 16 grams, 61 mm. (2 1/2").
